The Cavemen

Originally from New Zealand, now based in London, The Cavemen have travelled all the way us in Groningen at Vera downstage to bring us an authentic punk rock evening.

It all started off in leather jackets, cowboy-like shoes, wide belts reminiscent of Elvis, blue jeans and wide round sunglasses, these cavemen stormed in Vera with a time machine to bring us all back to the 80s punk-garage scene. With their setlist written on an A3 paper, these guys had no patience to rock ’n roll, and so they began. No pedalboards whatsoever around here, but raw classic tones that echoed in Jack’s guitar solos which sparked electric little jumps for the bass player, Takumi. Paul, a rather exceptional screamer managed to win over the audience with his love for mashed potatoes, booze and cigarettes whereby a never ending mosh(pit) quickly followed. The 4 cavemen appeared to be in their own yet shared element, one that quickly engulfed the audience as the music is rapidly pushed through the crowd.

Towards the end of their set, more and more beer was needed by the band as downstage turned into a sauna, where Paul seemed rather lost as he was desperately crying that he forgot his name, and where he was. However that is no surprise considering the band name, after all they could be true cavemen. The catchy punk rock riffs soon came to an end, yet an encore was demanded. Paul quickly evaporated upstairs, gasping for some fresh air and returned in no time, stronger and louder than before with an animalistic encore. The Cavemen definitely brought us back in time; As I was chatting with Jan upstairs next to the downstage’s door, a rather lost girl did not hesitate to ask us where the exit of Vera is, hence The Cavemen effect was a success.
