On the 20th of October, 2023, at Brouwerij Martinus, organized by Stichting Jazz In Groningen, the Sun-Mi Hong Quintet graced the stage for an unforgettable performance. This special concert celebrated the release of their third album,

titled 'Third Page: Resonance,' which had been introduced to the world in 2022 under Edition Records.

Born and raised in In-Cheon, Korea, Sun-Mi's journey in music has beenenriched by her ten-year stay in Amsterdam. She brings a unique blend of

grounded groove and spontaneous bursts to the Dutch jazz scene. Sun-Mi's approach to music has a meditative quality, allowing her to infuse each moment with an original touch on stage.

The Sun-Mi Hong Quintet is a rising presence in the European improvisational and contemporary jazz music scene. The Quintet artfully balances intricate compositions with the boundless realm of improvised music.

From the very first notes of their performance, it became evident that the quintet possessed an exceptional ability to transport the audience into a musical world of their own making. Their repertoire featured compositions that effortlessly flowed between minimalistic, contemplative moments and rhythmically rich, captivating passages, taking the audience on an unpredictable and mesmerizing journey.

Within the framework of their original compositions, the quintet embraced improvisation, infusing the performance with spontaneous creativity that underscored their deep musical connection.

Similar to fragile porcelain, their music revealed moments of vulnerability juxtaposed with segments of breathtaking strength, all uniquely their own. At times, it seemed as if their music shattered into fragments, only to be expertly and beautifully reassembled by the collective artistry of the musicians.



Throughout the concert, the quintet gracefully traversed various musical dimensions, crafting an immersive and emotionally resonant experience for the audience.
