I recently had the privilege of attending a mesmerizing jazz concert at Smederij, organized by Diederik Idema, featuring the extraordinary talents of Steve Nelson on vibraphone, Joris Teepe on bass, and Eric Ineke on drums. This dynamic trio, with the guidance of Diederik Idema, took us on a soul-stirring journey through the realms of jazz standards, and the result was a night of pure musical magic.

Joris Teepe, hailing from the Netherlands, anchored the performance with his masterful bass playing. His deep-rooted knowledge of jazz, spanning contemporary jazz, bebop, and free jazz, shone brightly as he effortlessly navigated the intricate harmonies of the standards. Teepe's experience as a bandleader and arranger was evident, as he seamlessly connected with his fellow musicians, keeping the rhythm section tight and pulsating.

Steve Nelson, the American jazz vibraphonist and marimba player, brought an ethereal quality to the performance. His mallet work was nothing short of breathtaking, and his collaboration with Teepe and Ineke was a testament to the universal language of music. With each note, Nelson painted vivid musical landscapes, captivating the audience and evoking a sense of pure serenity.

The heartbeat of the ensemble, Eric Ineke, showcased his legendary drumming skills. Having played with jazz icons from around the world, Ineke's precise and energetic drumming drove the performance forward. His rhythmic dexterity was awe-inspiring, and he effortlessly transitioned between different jazz styles, providing the perfect foundation for the trio's exploration of classic tunes.

The concert was a celebration of jazz in its purest form, where three exceptional musicians united to create an evening of captivating improvisation and heartfelt interpretations of timeless standards. Steve Nelson, Joris Teepe, and Eric Ineke, under the coordination of Diederik Idema, reminded us why jazz is an ever-evolving, timeless art form that continues to inspire and captivate audiences across the globe. This unforgettable evening at Smederij, orchestrated by Diederik Idema, will resonate with jazz enthusiasts for years to come.
